A plant’s ability to adapt to stress such as droughts and water shortages is being examined by an EU FP7-funded research team.
The team includes scientists from the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) in Grenoble (France) and the Higher Council of Scientific Research (Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Cientificas, CSIC) in Valencia (Spain). The project, entitled ‘Infrastructure for protein production platforms' (PCUBE) analyses the interaction between proteins and plant hormones in affecting a plant’s water intake mechanism.
Findings from the study should help scientists increase plants’ resistance to droughts and water shortages. Details of the study have made it into the journal “Nature”.
