The European Commission has established "SETIS", the online Strategic Energy Technologies (SET-Plan) Information System, which offers up-to-date information about low-carbon energy technologies.
SETIS evaluates and monitors those technologies that are supposed to help Europe achieve its objectives in the energy and climate change areas, such as nuclear fission, wind power, solar power, CCS or bioenergy.
The Information System provides interactive tools to determine where to best invest resources and coordinate action in the EU interest, to calculate costs of production for different techonologies and compare them over the time (up to 2030). The cost prospects are an important means of anticipating whether a given technology has competitive capacity within the energy system and its development.
